Exercise as an Investment

Exercise as an Investment

Aside from the few of us who exercise because we love it, we really do not exercise JUST to exercise. There are endless benefits to participating in regular daily exercise. But I want to focus on the practical reasons why this is important. When we think about activities we enjoy, they often include things like fishing, golfing, traveling, gardening, hiking, bike riding, skiing, walking, and playing with our children or grandchildren. While all of these things by themselves are great exercise, we cannot necessarily participate in them every day or even every week, depending on our busy schedules. But in order to CONTINUE to do these fun activities to the best of our abilities when the times do present themselves, we need to participate in a regular exercise routine. Regular exercise is training for your life.

Think about exercise as an investment, but in your body. We try to invest our money wisely throughout our working years so that we will have enough to live comfortably throughout our years of retirement. Try to think of exercise in the same way. Making a daily investment of exercise will keep our bodies strong to live comfortably and actively and to be able to continue to participate in the activities that we enjoy! I once had a client, who was an older gentleman, tell ME to take care of myself. He said when he was younger he was strong and able bodied, but didn’t have the money to travel and see all of the places in the world he dreamed about. But now that he was older, he had plenty of money, but his body wasn’t strong enough to live out those dreams.

Don’t wait.  It’s never too late to start. If you continue with a regular exercise routine, you will not only see the benefits in the fun activities you enjoy so much, you will also find it makes all Activities of Daily Living easier and much more comfortable to complete.
