Not Another Resolution Article

Wouldn’t it be nice to NOT have “Start Exercising” as a resolution for 2017?  You don’t have to look very far right now to see the latest exercise DVD set, the supplement system that will yield amazing results, or the newest device that will change your life. Forget the full-on, all or nothing, extreme life changes. While these may actually work for some people (they look so convincing!), the average individual is less likely to adhere to such extreme life changes. Instead of thinking of exercise as a “resolution,” think of it as a way of life. Exercise isn’t a choice. It is necessary in every single person’s daily way of life. Don’t think of exercise as a daunting, exhausting thing that you just don’t have time for, rethink your vision.  Here are a few ways to simply add activity into your day without the daunting thought of doing something you’re not comfortable with.

·      Start slowly. Start by simply moving around your house more throughout the day; walk up and down your stairs 5 times, do heel raises at your kitchen counter, or march in place during commercials.

·      Add more a little at a time: Park further way at the grocery store or the mall. Walk around the block after breakfast. Once this becomes habit, add a loop after lunch.

·      Set a Timer: If you have a habit of sitting for long periods of time, whether it be due to your desk job, computer work, TV watching, online gaming, or whatever it may be, set a timer for 30 minutes. Every time it goes off, stand up and stretch, march in place, walk around the office, etc.

·      Hire a personal trainer. If you decide you’re ready to up your game a bit and add even more exercise into your life, hire a professional to design something appropriate for your life and your goals. If you find someone good, you will not have to worry about doing too much and injuring yourself.

Exercise begets exercise. The more you start to add into your day, the better you will feel and the more you will want to add. Go with it. And save your list of resolutions for another topic area next year!
